Power Problems

#1 Post by indicium » Tue Sep 02, 2008 8:31 pm

I believe that I have loose DC connector on my T40. Sometimes when I plug in the adapter, it doesn't work and I have to move it around in the connector. I looked on the Lenovo website and can't find any information about it. Any help is appreciated.

He makes this sound easy.

I've taken apart many T4x machines - but the one time I tried this repair it was really tough to get into the machine that far.

But - if you do decide to DYI - here is the repair manual.

Get one of those Milwaukee screw drivers and a nice magnetized #1 tip at Home Depot. Make the job much easier. :D

The DC socket connects to the mobo via a short lead and a plug. You can get new ones via ebay etc. Good luck with the repair.

Sounds like the problem I had on the T41. Try 'T41p Battery not charging -Interesting Cause' at
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... +connector
for details of how I fixed it. I hope this helps you.

Today, I not so sure it isn't the adapter as when I was moving the plug around in the jack nothing but i had to move the adapter and it worked. This is going to take a little more research.
One question though, can the connector be loose and still function well?

I muddled by with a loose connector for 4 months before it finally failed.

Can you borrow someone else's adaptor, or use your on their Thinkpad? That would narrow the problem down.

I have another adapter for a 770, but its rated at 3.7 amps versus the 4.5 for the current adapter. I'll try it anyway
