T42 motherboard HTPC case

#1 Post by domsta » Wed Sep 03, 2008 5:19 am

Hi guys,

I have a T42 laptop busted LCD screen but laptop still functions. I was wondering is it possible to dismount the motherboard and put it into a HTPC case? if so would it fix in a micro-atx or ATX case.

If it is possible to have it into a HTPC case, what special or additional requirements must be made in comparison to having a normal built htpc, ie PSU.

Cheers

Why bother.

I have one with a messed-up screen. I bought a mini-dock off of ebay for $20 and use it with a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. I just keep it closed.

Sure it'll fit (it's smaller than an mATX board), but the mounting holes, will be different, like you noticed you'll have to use the original power brick, ports won't line up, etc.

The size of the botherboard is basically the size of the base of you T4x. But, like awolfe63 said, why bother? Instead of just "keeping it closed" you can remove the screen. You could even mount it behind your TV (you'd have to fab a mounting system).
