Which SSD in Europe for X41

#1 Post by Utwig » Fri Sep 05, 2008 4:30 am

Which 32GB SSD fits in X41 that can be ordered in Europe.

There are also 32GB CF cards with ~15MB r/w speed for about 180. Where does one order PATA-CF adapter?
T540p, T420s (soon to be T420ps :) ), X61t, T60p, T42p, A21p

You should look into this big thread http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=41568 for more information.

You will want more than 15MB/s if you want to go faster than the original hard disk drive.
X22 - 800mhz - 640MB RAM - 60GB Hitachi 7200rpm 7k100
X40 - 1.4ghz - 1.5GB RAM - 8GB Transcend 300x CF on Addonics CF/IDE Adapter
T42p - 1.8ghz - 15" UXGA - 1GB RAM - 160GB HDD
X61t - C2D 1.6ghz - 12.1" SXGA+ - 8GB RAM - Intel G3 300GB SSD

Pardon for barging in here as a Newbie, but this interests me too as I have a X40. I love it to bits, but the HDD is a worry of course ... Your SSD solution:

X40 - 1.4ghz - 1.5GB RAM - 8GB Transcend 300x CF on Addonics CF/IDE Adapter

Looks like the road I shall be going down - How big can one go with Compact Flash (realistically)? Anyway, I hope a twit like me can get it to work without breaking anything ...

My baby is set up now to dual-boot Windoze XP-Pro & Linux Minty Freshness, and does this remarkably quickly (compared to my PCs) ... Read/Write times are fine too, but can I expect an improvement with SSD (assuming a good quality CF of course)?

Thanks,
;) Chris.

p.s. I'm quite excited to find this way of extending the life of my 'pocket rocket', but I live a very sheltered life here in (rural) Herefordshire, please understand?!
