Does anyone know if an SL6VU will work in a T30 ? Its the same FSB, but lower L2 cache, same socket, afaik, but it has the integrated heat sink...which I don't think would really matter, just make it run a bit cooler as long as the hsf has enough room in the case ...

Anyone try one of these cpu's ?

but why? even if it is compatible and you get past the fan/heatsink issues it'll be a dog. my T30 with the 2.0GHz CPU will blow away any 2.4 celeron desktop, even if the desktop has more RAM and a faster HDD.

Thanks very much for the reply, I didn't know that was the case. I can find the 2.2Ghz P4M pretty easy and cheap, its just the 2.4 that is a bit expensive and difficult to find, which is why I was asking about the Celeron chip...

i no its an old thread but my best t30 is fitted with 1g ram and a 2.4g celeron, thats beinging compared against a 2.2g p4 with 2 x 1 gig sticks or my wfes 2.0g p4 t30 1.5 g ram.
all with latest bios etc , i would go 2.4 celeron , it does'nt kick out anymore heat either.
not bothered doing any benches it is just obviously that much quicker.
