[SOLVED] Different palmrests on T42 ?

#1 Post by WarMachine » Sun Sep 07, 2008 1:51 pm

Hello,

I've looked for a similar question, but I haven't found anything.

I'm planning to buy a T42 2373-7ZG with 512 MB:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo

I've noticed on the T42 pics on the net that sometimes, the palmrests were different :

http://katalognotebooku.cz/img/ibm-thinkpad-t42-1.jpg

Is it just a difference in design or is there a technical difference too ?

Thanks ! :)

Your first pic link is a T4x with a 14" display.

Your second pic link is a T4x with a 15" display.

14" and 15" models use different palmrests, keyboard bezels and keyboards.

The item you are thinking about buying has a 14" LCD.

However, there are three different 14" palmrests available - 1) with touchpad, 2) without touchpad, 3) with touchpad and fingerprint reader.

The 15" palm rest is one piece encompassing the entire upper layer, it entombs the keyboard.

The 14" is two piece. One above the keyboard, and one below.

Both have fingerprint scanner options.

Thx ! :)

The palmrest of the T42 can be found without touchpad ?

I thought it was present on all the T4x series. I know too that both palmrests exist for the T30.

Yes, the palm rest without touchpad can be bought seperately and installed instead of the default touchpad equipped palmrest. I've never liked the touchpad, so I chose to put on the simpler palmrest, which I think looks better, and is more comfortable.

That does look good. I knew they had them from perusing the fourm and HMM, but I never saw one installed. Very nice.

THOSE EXIST?!!!

Wow, can anyone point me in the right direction for a T42p palmrest with touchpad and fingerprint scanner? Forgive my ignorance, but I was unable to find it on IBM's website.

Is your T42P 14" or 15"?. Here's the parts manual. I think you can probably figure out what you need.

If your T42 didn't have the fingerprint scanner to begin with, it may not support it. You need 1) the right motherboard, and 2) the correct UltraBay/drive cage assembly to support it. Check the HMM for the part numbers.

I've got the T42p with the fingerprint scanner, and I want a bezel without the scanner or touchpad.
