T43 SSD upgrade. Is it possible?

#1 Post by zborbas » Sun Sep 07, 2008 4:02 pm

Hi Everyone,

I am new in the forum, although I have already got a lot of help just reading the various topics...

I'd like to upgrade my T43 with an SSD (most probably an MTRON Mobi PATA), but because the T43 is particularly choosy in terms of hard drives I am not entirely sure this is possible and/or worth it. Any experience? I read a lot about SATA SSD replacement but almost nothing about PATA drives.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum.

Do a search. There are long threads on this subject in this forum and X2x, X3x, X4x forum.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I did a search on this topic, but could not find any information about PATA SSD and thinkpad T43. Understanably, there is much more about the more modern SATA SSD's.
I would be interested to hear about experience regarding boot time (including the pause for the 2010 error) and also power consumption, as I heard controversial stories (ie. even higher power requirement then regular HDD, due to non-implementation power sawing techniques). Unfortunately the T43 is unlike the other 'non choosy' laptops.

Here's the X41 thread. The X41 also has the same problem.

Performance and power usage depend on what model you get, there are some out there that perform well on both fronts.
