X61 video not switching as expected in and out of ultrabase

#1 Post by darrenf » Mon Sep 08, 2008 5:15 pm

Caveat: I am working with an X-series for the first time.

My customer is using the ultrabase like a docking station. When his X61 is in the docking station, he uses his external display as the primary and sole display (ie in Vista, the settings to "extend desktop onto this monitor" and "this is my main monitor" are checked for the external display and unchecked for the internal).

When he undocks and removes the laptop from the ultrabase, Vista switches to internal video and resizes the screen -- no problem. When he returns the laptop to the ultrabase, though, the video on the external display simply mirrors the laptop display (which stays on).

My experience with Txx docks is that Windows remembers different video settings when docked and undocked. Is that not the case with the ultrabase? Can that be enabled?

Thanks for any assistance.

I use Presentation Director for this purpose. It has a setting that you can enable to apply a specific video profile upon docking. I'm working with an X61 in XP and observed the same effect you mention when relying on Windows to handle things. After setting up Presentation Director, and configuring it to apply the profile when docked, it's all working perfectly.

Fantastic! I didn't see that setting but I'll go back and have another look. Thanks!
