Can't restore X40 Factory Contents

#1 Post by jaschulz » Mon Sep 08, 2008 6:59 pm

I have an X40 with the original Rescue and Restore Disk, and the original six install disks. I boot with R&R and run the restore factory contents process without error, but when the machine reboots it simply returns to the R&R environment. If I choose restore factory contents a second time, it wants to copy the six disks again. I actually let it do that once, but it didn't help. What am I doing wrong?

thanks,

JAS

Excuse me for this silly question, but is the R&R CD is the CD drive while you are rebooting after completing the factory restore process? In such an eventuality, you could try ejecting it before the machine chooses to boot from it.

No, the R&R CD is no in the drive when I reboot.

I should have mentioned that in my earlier post.

jaschulz, was the machine bootable, was there an operating system installed before you decided to restore to factory settings? I am not sure, but the problem could possibly be the faulty master boot record. I recovered mine using a CD I had downloaded from this post: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=56398

Hope this could help.
