A pretty mouse to go with Thinkpad

#1 Post by snoopy318 » Thu Jun 03, 2004 11:49 am

guys got any comment to go with a ibm t41p black looking color mouse ?

http://www.ug.it.usyd.edu.au/~mslam/mouse.JPG

the ASUS is available in large quantity in chinatown(which i can go anytime) for ~AUD$50, and the logitech is not avaiable in any stores, and only some online website companies have which take a few days to order and are around $70-80 (whether u pick it up yourself or by courier, which also need to take into the account of the location and tunnel fee and time)

with my previous sony laptop ive been using sony mouse which match the laptop perfectly fine and cool

if possible, please vote or give me some advise and let me see where the majority goes

Currently I'm using this tiny IBM mouse. Although it's not cordless, I really love it, and fits perfectly to my T40. I hope IBM will soon come out with a bluetooth mini mouse.

Canadian ThinkPad owners who act quickly can get a free Targus Dual Mode Notebook Mouse.

1. Go here
2. Look for: "Click here to get your Bonus Targus Mouse. See our ad in Here's How for more information."
3. Enter promo code: mouseyz4 [if you don't have a copy of Here's How at hand ;)]
4. Fill out a short survey
5. Wait a week
6. (optional) buy me a beer

Thats the one I use. In fact I did just want a normal Microsoft 2 button clunker because they are reliable. So there I am, the [censored] fool I was that day in Comet. Land of the 16 year old zombies with pimples and blackheads, all feeding on their prey for the seldom joy in their life, regarded as, comission. Oh yes.

*ahem*

So yes there I was and that mouse was there and I thought yeah thats cute, and optical, which is good since I used to have an optical mouse for my old Amiga some years back, superb mouse that was, anyway so I thought hey its £12.95. Not too bad.

Goes to till. Turned out the bloomin thing was £22. I was too shocked to say no. Have to say though it's a fantastic mouse even if it is silver, and ideal for my work in photoshop etc.

Though that said, it's rarely plugged in, guess I get on so well with my trackpoint, wonderful thing!

I just bought this GE wireless Mini Optical mouse. It's small, but I've adjusted to it in a short time.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... pe=product

What I prefer is this microft notebook mouse, but wireless. Compact and very comfortable. Anybody know if it comes in a wireless model somewhere?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... pe=product

I bought the logitech one for my daughter. It's nice, but heavy. I think a downside to it is that it has a quite loud "click" when pressing the key - might not be suitable depending on your enviroment.

I just clicked on lilserenity's link. She's got the wired Microsoft notebook mouse - glad you like it. Now why hasn't the Big MS made it in wireless?? Surely they'd make money!

you could use the microsoft bluetooth desktop mouse which will work with the internal bluetooth on a thinkpad (as long as you only want windows xp), i have had other microsoft wireless mice but the recievers are too big for portability

I just bought a 10-pack of optical black Logitech mouse - don't know if that means 10, or just 1 mouse from a larger box of 10 being shipped, bagged up and thrown in a box ;)

I'll let you know how it goes, if someone says the word.

Like G-Man, I have the IBM laptop mouse http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... &storeId=1.
It is the right size, the right color and best of all... it has the same texture as the LCD cover of your thinkpad (without the fingerprint problem)

However, I wish the button click were more softly, not light in the scroll wheel and the cord a little more thinner and stronger.

I still dod not find anything better thought.
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

I use a Logitech Mouseman Traveller http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produ ... ENTID=4986
It's tiny, comes complete with a short cable AND an extension, and lives in it's own little leather wallet when 'sleeping'...

Ian, I bought that same Logitech Mouseman Traveller just before the IBM one.
I liked its sleekness, soft clicks, metal feels good under the palm, the cord was thin but sturdy and besides the 'sleeping bag' it also had and extension cord isn't it?

However I retourned a few days latter... I don't know it is all of them or just mine, but the metal had the tendency not to be en contact with the buttom underneath, so sometimes when pressing down once, if felt like two clicks.

I admit I haven't used it that much yet - but I understand what you mean - we'll have to see. Have to admit though, the 'design' caught my eye as much as anything else - nice to get away from the classic mouse shape...

i'd like to use an external mouse but my desk has plexiglass on it covering the wood so optical mice don't work. is there any workaround for this?

btw, it's cool that you can use bluetooth mice with just the ibm BT and without docking cradles but don't you need to use them to charge anyway? anyway, i have a USB scrollpoint mouse from IBM which used to be nice but now it doesn't glide well and the USB software isn't great (you can't plug it in through a hub or minidock) and as mentioned before, i can't use it on my desk...

Cut a piece of adhesive-backed vinyl sheeting or "shelf paper" into the shape of a mousepad and stick it on the glass. I've seen similar mouse pads for sale but they're not common and they cost a lot more.

Or, buy from a vinyl sticker store a type of sticker for glass decoration (it has a crystalic fine pattern and is gray coloured... it works nice for any optical mouse.) Also, If you are a bit more elite, you can change the LED of the mouse, my friend has a table that is reflective and glossy, changing the LED from red to IR made a difference (yup, standard 2 IR led) do a google lookup for more info... BTW, this only improves the smoothness of the mouse on a jaggy movement from an unsutable surface!

And ya, why use a mouse, i got a M$ Intellimouse gathering dust on my shelf, i only use it when i want to play game [which is a extremely rare occurance]

I recently got myself a Logitech V500 (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produ ... ENTID=9508), and I have been surprised how nice it feels, about as good as my desktop mouse, and it looks quite nice as well. Really neat for road mouse work.
It has, however, a few bad habits:
- The install program brutally overwrites the track point driver, so you have to ask XP to restore the driver. Annoying, but one time only.
- When you use the wheel pad, the mouse makes noises, and there is no way to turn them off. They are not louder than what a typical scroll wheel produces, but I still find it superfluous.
- The mouse does not support rechargeable batteries with their typical 1.2V output current.

Item 930642-0403 to find the Logitech Mouseman Traveler Optical priced at $15. Flat rate $6 shipping for your entire order.

This is the one I have as well. So that makes three of us so far with it. It's very portable, but I wouldn't use it for an extended period of time. I used it for a week straight once as my primary mouse, wrist and hand were cramping like crazy.
