It can set on the desk all day long running, comes out of hibernation great but if I pick it up and move the screen around it locks up and mouse and keys do not do anything. I have to hold the start button down till it shuts down and when I restart it works fine. has happened about 4 or 5 times. anyone else having this problem? i think it could be a loose cable for the video or something.

(Belated) Welcome to thinkpads.com!
Sounds like there's a problem with the motherboard, but that's just my initial thought. Best way to proceed with this would be to get a copy of memtest86+, a memory diagnostic program:
http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
You might also want to grab a copy of PC Doctor for DOS for the T30:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-54659 (diskette version)
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-56222 (bootable CD image)
Remove all hardware from the system (hard drive, PCMCIA cards, USB, MiniPCI, modem, etc.) except for what is minimally needed to run the diagnostic (single memory module and boot drive; diskette or CD). Start with the memtest86+ disk. With a single memory module installed, boot the system. If it starts running the diagnostic, let it go for a couple of minutes. Then move the laptop around like before when you were getting . If no errors or lock ups occur, then move that module to the other memory slot and repeat.
Your system might have a problem with a bad memory slot. It's a known issue with T30 systems. That would be my first guess for your problem. If you find that the one memory module works in both slots and you normally have a second module, repeat the testing with that module, again in each slot.
If memtest86+ does not detect any errors, nor does the system lock up then it's time to start running PC Doctor tests. Before you get to that, try the memory tests first.
