13R2657-02 is the FRU, I think. Any suggestions where to go?

ebay, like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Thinkpad-T40-T41-T4 ... 0257420119
or lenovo service parts. don't have an url handy, but i think they're ~$60 (?).

Jed:

What you ask has been discussed quite a bit here on the forum before, and much information is (easily!) available, if just taking a moment to search for it yourself. Anyway, I suggest you see e.g. the following threads which I hope may be of use T42p fan long m10 installation : pink sheet or not...? and Replacing My Fan and Need advice on replacing t41p fan and Noisy fan and T42 fan error, what fan to buy? and M24 Long fan vs M10 Long fan - Difference? and how is Thinkpad-parts.com?.

Also, use the Search function (which is very useful!), and e.g. search for 13R2657 and 41W5204 (and restrict your search to the T4x forum).

Buy a replacement fan from e.g. IBM Maintenance parts. I would not personally buy an used fan - giving the very reasonably prices on new fans ($32 + S/H). But: Your money, your choice!

I hate it that you guys are able to do the research so quickly around here. Because I know it gives the impression that I am basically a lazy lurker. I appreciate both of the speedy responses here. Are there tricks to searching the forum? I find that I get literally hundreds of hits. There must be a better way.

Right now as I try to revive my old trusty T40p, I find that once I have re-imaged from the CD's lots of issues come up. Like the fact that I can't find the right driver for my wireless adaptor and I keep getting the dreaded yellow question mark. I am quite sure I have the Intel adaptor (neither Cisco nor Philips ring a bell) but it's a #$%#@$!@$#!@$ trying to get the thing to install right.

There.. I vented. Back to searching. I do appreciate both posts in my support. And Hi Bill.

are you installing from an oem or retail cd? i'm surprised you're getting unknown devices when restoring the system, unless you're not using an ibm/lenovo recovery disk set or a set you've made from r&r on the same machine. every thinkpad i've had comes up fully enumerated from that process. sure... some drivers can benefit from updates, but i don't get any unknowns. :?

From spending more time in the fora I found out I did not have the intel drivers, rather the atheros. I found the appropriate download and now all seems OK...

Not sure why the wireless didn't install from the 4 CD's which are original but then I'm not sure about a lot of stuff these days.

I'm now busily updating other stuff and am looking forward to having my T40p back in biz after a couple of years on the shelf.

Thanks.
