Thinkpad 600E and Win98SE conflict

#1 Post by mike engles » Sun Jan 02, 2005 1:51 pm

Hello
I have done a clean install of Win98SE on my daughters machine.
The consequence is that I have s device conflict.
The system detects two hard drive controllers.
Thers is s generic driver for 2 Standard Bus Mastering IDE Hard Disk Controllers as well a s a Intel 82371AB/EC PCI Bus Master IDE Controller.

I found a driver for the Intel; it is loaded. I cannot unload the standard ones and hence there is a conflict. Is there a solution?

See the following similar thread regarding a ThinkPad 770X and a clean install of Windoze 98SE:
TP 770X, 98SE, IRQ conflict ???

The problem arises from not following IBM's directions for how to perform a clean install of Windoze 98SE on a blank hard drive:
Windows 98 installation supplement files - ThinkPad 770, 600E/X [Document ID: MIGR-4FJ3SC].

Thanks, I know I never asked the question here, but I have asked in other places and I had that same hard drive exclamation point, Followed the suggested procedure (I already had the files on my hard drive as it turns out but had never done the registery update)

Worked great
