Possible fan problem

#1 Post by hook em bucky » Wed Sep 10, 2008 10:37 pm

Hi everyone,

After returning from class I turned on my laptop (R61/Vista) where, to my surprise, I got a "fan error" message. I then removed the keyboard and blew compressed air through the fan. Hallelujah! My computer proceeded to boot up correctly. However I'm not sure if the fan is running. It's very quiet but maybe it was like that before, I never really took note. A program I downloaded shows no fan running, however I don't know if it is reliable with VISTA or Thinkpads.

Is my fan not running? That doesn't make sense to me if I am able to boot up after a "fan error" message. Are there settings that possibly could have been changed that I need to fix in the BIOS?

Any ideas on what to do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

welcome to the forum. :)

have a search through this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=17715 to see if anyone is using thinkpad fan control on an r61 running vista. tpfc can be found here: http://www.tpfancontrol.com/

even if you don't use it to actively control your fan, it should report fan rpm in real time.
