T30 - Does it suffer from same inductor issue as T23?

#1 Post by bobgarty » Thu Sep 11, 2008 6:03 am

Hi,

Just been offered a T30 that has pulsing fan issue at boot - Anyone know if this is the same fault as the T23 pulsing fan?

Thanks
Bob

what do you mean exactly by "pulsing fan"?
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400
X200 - P8600 2.66Ghz, 3G, 250G
G50-70 - 3558U 2.4Ghz, 4G, 1T

T23's suffer from an issue where 2 inductors can become detached from the systemboard - the symptoms of this are that when the laptop is started it doesn't post or power the lcd, but the cpu cooling fan pulses - eg. starts and stops repeatedly - see the sticky at the top of this section.

My question is does the T30 suffer from the same issue ......

so you mean EXACTLY the same behaviour...
i haven't heard of T30's with this problem - only with worn fans, that cause the "fan error" message and stop the boot process
ex: T30, TR451, TR453, R51, R52, X40, X60, R61, T400
X200 - P8600 2.66Ghz, 3G, 250G

Yes - I have fixed LOADS of inductors on T23's over the last couple of years - just never seen a T30 with the same problem - does the T30 board have the same inductors?

The T30 mobo has quite a few similar inductors to the T23.
I've worked on quite a few T30s, but have not yet come across a pulsing fan on a T30.
The T30 is a later design (although a good 'ringer' for a T30 mobo), and they probably used better soldering techniques as on the T23.

But nothing is impossible in laptops, so it could be loose(ning) inductors.

I may take a punt and buy it - is missing battery and memory, but is otherwise complete. Will let you know if it is the same problem
