T42p motherboard&t41 parts

#1 Post by juhpal » Thu Sep 11, 2008 5:10 pm

Hello,

I just bought a T42p motherboard to replace my burned T41 motherboard. The price was reasonable.

I tried to boot the T41 processor in the burned T41 board that had a short circuit in northbridge. Now I worry to some extent that could (if the processor got damaged) the "new" motherboard get damage from a faulty processor? So should I buy a processor too...

Also: I have the short heat sink/fan. Can I use this short version to test t42p motherboard with fire gl graphics. (Just to test, not for long term use). This would mean that the graphics card wouldn't get any cooling (like in radeon 7500 boards).

Are there any other parts that I should get when changing from t41 motherboard to t42p motherboard.

Hmmm... well, there is always a possibility the processor went too... I guess ymmv.

I've had several motherboards, both laptop and desktop, where the NB and/or SB burnt and never once did the processor get fryed... again, ymmv.

If you pull the processor and it doesn't smell burnt and doesn't have any burnt pins on the bottom, then it may be ok. You can get really cheap processors on ebay that would work in your T42 (400mhz fsb), or post a WTB in the Marketplace forum. Someone is bound to have one for little money.
