restoring factory settings help please

Hi

i have thinkpad T42 3wj japanese xp pro preinstalled. i am having some problems with my os applications keep on crashing so i want to restore the original factory settings and start all over again. my ides ia to have a clean factory set system again how do i do that?what is the rapid restore and recovery option i get when i click the access ibm button.

is it possible for a repair install and whats it.ive heard its possible in xp pro.
about my syatem
i have partion magic installed which has made my drive into two partitions.i have preinstalled norton anti virus installed.
