Intervideo WinDVD

#1 Post by grstoker » Fri Sep 12, 2008 6:00 pm

I put a fresh install from the hidden partition of my T30. I can not access the DVD player now. It worked before the reformat. I can get the update from IBM, but it says I need the original first. I didn't get any restore CD's when I bought the computer. I there any way to get the Original Intervideo software?

I downloaded the WinDVD file and loaded it on my T30. Ran setup, but it said "This is not a qualifed Compaq Solution. I tried running the update from IBM, with same results.

Lenovo says the original installed version should be found here:

C:\ibmtools\apps directory

Do you have this file on your new install?

If you don't, there are several good free DVD players out there:

Media Player Classic and

KMPlayer
IBM T23 (2648-4NU) 1.13Ghz Pentium III, 1GB, 60GB 5400rpm, CD/DVD-RW, Internal Wireless, Windows XP Pro SP2 [DONOR]

I do have the folder c:/ibmtools/apps. It contains 7 other folders for other programs, but I can't find the one that has windvd. Looking on other post I found the vlc program that works great. I just thought it would be nice to have oem on the machine.

Did you have the DVD drive installed when you restored the OS? I have found that the restore (on some machines) will not reinstall WINDVD if the drive is not in the machine when the restore is done. This may be the case with yours, or maybe your machine did not have the DVD drive in it's original configuration.

i had the floppy in the T30 when I did the reload. I will try it again with the DVD drive in it. I didn't have the F11 option on start up to reload XP, so a bought a floppy to create a disk that would put the F11 option on. I just left it in on the reload.

Thanks for the idea.

You are welcome, I'm glad that worked! A little-known "feature" of the restore software, it decides what to install based on looking at your hardware. I discovered this through trial and error.

The latest version of the WinDVD software can be found here,
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-56646

It's a full install package and can be installed in legacy machines such as the T30 (I have it installed on mine).
It does not rely on a previous version being installed, in fact, the installation instructions say there should not be a previous version.

I have installed the last two version of WinDVD in this manner, the previous version having been installed on a fresh (manual) XP install.
