#1 Post by LPC » Mon Sep 15, 2008 1:12 pm

Thinking of picking up a N router since my IMac already is aready 802.11n compatable. Are there N cards out there compatable with our T4x's?

Yes:

Do a search here, there are a few people that did it. One of the cards there looks larger than normal so you might want to also see which models worked well.

This is great! The ones I found were over $100! Thanks! I will look more into them.

Maybe external PCMCIA or USB cards. I'm not aware of anyone that's installed a n - compatible miniPCI card on this forum. If these do work in the T4x (not a given - hardware/BIOS compatibility, antenna compatibility, etc), you'll still have to do the 1802 hack.

It should work for T40-T42. Getting past the 1802 error is a lot tougher for T43.

I've installed Edimax cards in A31s which are based on the same Ralink RT2860RT chipset as SparkLAN. There are some cards available that are based on Atheros AR5008 chipset.

While it'd be ideal to have a Mini-PCI card, I took a peek at Lenovo just to see if they offered anything. They've got a Belkin ExpressCard unit, part number 30R6266, for $99.00. (And the T43 has ExpressCard in the top "PC Card" slot.) And a D-link Cardbus unit, part number DWA-652, for $70 or so.

I'd consider those for "Plan B."

I installed an Atheros 11n miniPCI card in my T42p. It is described in this post.

Obviously it doesn't work for T43s.
