Once again: Rescue and Recovery beginner questions

Hello,

I am about to freshly set up my computer. I was planning the following:

Having a separate partitions, one for Windows, one for programs, one for documents and one for R&R to store backups on.

After installing Windows, setting it all up and installing all the essential programs, I wanted to get R&R to make a full backup of the first two partitions and store it on the assigned "backup partition". This is for the case, I get a software crash while on the road, so I can get Windows fully set up and running with all the essential programs in the matter of a couple of hours.

Now my questions are:

-> How big has the "backup partition" to be?

-> How can I tell R&R to store its backups there?

-> And which mode of file recovery would I have to choose, when the case mentioned above happened? "Full hard drive recovery" or "Windows and programs"?

Also, I played a bit around with R&R. So far, it will only let me save backup files to external media. What is the reason for that / how can I change it?

In my experience, RnR has a compression ratio of about 2:1.
Using this, you should be able to work out how much space you need to hold the required number of full backups you wish to save. Don't forget you can also do incremental backups with RnR so you may wish to take one full backup and then any number of incrementals.

When you first go into the schedule backup screen, you can select which partitions you wish to backup and at that point you will asked for the location of the backup. Select the local partition you have allocated for RnR backups.

I've never tried your exact backup configuration but I would suggest the windows and programs restore.
I've used a full hard drive recovery (when restoring from an external USB device) and the whole (target) drive gets wiped out before the restore starts.
