Should I buy an X60s?
Should I buy an X60s?
I am getting a good deal on a new X60s (remnant stock, with 2 years warranty remaining).
It seems like a good deal:
Brand new X60s, 1.66GHz 3GB RAM 60GB HD
with DVD base and additional power supplies etc for $1000.
no fingerprint (no great loss to me) or Bluetooth (I have a PCMCIA BT Card)
I have a couple of questions:
1. Is the LV processor going to be a let-down? Use mostly for work - MS OFFICE, email and mp3 burning etc?
2. Can i add one of the common 7200rpm SATA drives? I am thinking of the Western Digital 1600BEKT 160GB drive.
3. How much speed increase VS battery time loss will this result in?
4. Does the SD slot handle SDHC?
The rival machine i am considering is a Macbook (running WinXP).
I have had a long line of IBM machines - X24, X31, X40 (using presently). The X40 is a 1.4GHz machine, but it really bogs down - my understanding (and experience) is that it's the stupid 1.8" drive that lets it down - hence my desire for a 7200rpm drive in the X60s. I really LOVE the size, weight, superb LCD and keyboard/track point etc. Hate the easy to scratch/scuff black finish on the lid.
Your inputs will be greatly appreciated!!

I moved up to a "used" x60s, added 3gb ram and a 320gb 7200 HD, and it flat FLIES. It is night and day faster than the x40 it replaced; every bit as fast my black MacBook (which headed to college with my daughter), and WAY FASTER than my wife's Sony VGN SZ430 with 2gb ram, 320gb HD, and VistaBeast (business). I use it constantly for Office, email, burning CD's and DVDs.
BATTERY LIFE IS UNBELIEVABLE - I've easily topped 7 hours with WiFi, surfing, VPN and email in evenings/weekends. Highly recommended.

Is the MacBook you're considering an Air? I ask, because to me the T series ThinkPads are comparable to the standard and Pro Macbooks.

I was referring to your question about battery life if using 7200RPM drive vs. slower drives. By "right" drive I mean any of the current crop of 2.5" 7200RPM 9.5mm drives: Hitachi 7K320 or Seagate Momentus 7200.3 drives.Imran999 wrote:What do you mean by 'runtime loss'?
And what should i be looking for in the 'right drive'?
Received my X60s - sweet machine!
It's almost the same size/weight as my old X40, but a hell of a lot more powerful, and it feels sturdier too.
The battery life (8cell) was showing between 6 and 8 hours - LOVE IT!
Screen looks great, and the keyboard is ace.
Has anyone found a solution to the horrible lid material? i.e. some way of protecting the black paint that seems to scratch so easily, and worse-still shows finger-prints well enough to please a border-control officer!
I was thinking about maybe some sort of clear film, but any ideas, solutions would be most welcomed!

Hi guys,
Do you have any problem right palm rest get hot? Mine is a bit too warm, good for this winter though. Speedfan show:
HDD: 43c
Temp1: 53c
Temp2: 52c
Core 0: 53c
Core 1: 53c
Is that abnormal? Should I contact Lenovo?
If you guys don't mind, could you please let me how hot of your system?
Thanks,
Paul

I'm wondering about this too. I want to get an x60 or x61 tablet, and I was horribly dismayed every time I found a new mark on my beloved 600e's lid.Imran999 wrote:Has anyone found a solution to the horrible lid material? i.e. some way of protecting the black paint that seems to scratch so easily, and worse-still shows finger-prints well enough to please a border-control officer!

560, 560, 560, (all in various stages of completion/possession of a screen) 600E that's pretty dead, and a spiffy new X61 Tablet.
