Lenovo ThinkPad X200s and X200 Tablet PC Unveiled
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4606
The interesting part is (if not mistaken): "Display options include either a LED or CCFL backlit display. The LED flavor will be WXGA+ while the CCFL will be WXGA."
It seems as X200s gets a 12" 1440x900 resolution ?

Yes. X200s will get LED backlit 1440x900 or CCFL 1280x800. It has been confirmed from other sources.
I am puzzled with the CPU options, however. Lenovo offers ULV C2D in the X200s?
For the quoted battery life, I wonder if they are from an X200s with ULV C2D + LED backlit LCD.
I am having a hard time choosing among X200, X200s and X301. The battery life on X301 is short but it has a DisplayPort. X200 has the fastest CPU. X200s has the longest battery life.
Sony Vaio Z is off the list due to battery drain issue.

Yes. I've seen it and it is definitely the worst ThinkPad screen ever. I couldn't believe there might be anything worse than my X31 display. There was a picture showing that even almost ten years old ThinkPad 600X has better screen.sugo wrote:Is the 13.3" TMD LED LCD on X300 and X301 really that bad? I mean it can't be worse than the IDTech on my T42 I think?
Unfortunately according NBR forum posting there is no PCMCIA slot option for X200s which is a deal-breaker for me. I was tempted by the display resolution but I fear the panel quality will be horrible anyway.

And you're taking such a big risk because of the demise of ThinkPad's return policy and there's not a lot of places you can see one. WXGA+ could be a big seller if the panel's any good. There's a little drool collecting in the corner of my mouth right now.Puppy wrote:Yes. I've seen it and it is definitely the worst ThinkPad screen ever. Okay with so many people saying the same on this forum X301 is off my list.Puppy wrote:Yes. I've seen it and it is definitely the worst ThinkPad screen ever.
X200 and X200s have ExpressCard 54 slot. Would that not work?Puppy wrote: Unfortunately according NBR forum posting there is no PCMCIA slot option for X200s which is a deal-breaker for me.
I need a slot for smartcard reader as well. Another reason to let go the expensive X301.

No, the only way to get mobile Internet over here is via custom hardware provided by local operators. All of them have PCMCIA cards only. No plans for ExpressCard or internal PCI Express modules.sugo wrote:X200 and X200s have ExpressCard 54 slot. Would that not work?

I have a new X300 and can say without reservation the display is excellent!sugo wrote:Is the 13.3" TMD LED LCD on X300 and X301 really that bad? I mean it can't be worse than the IDTech on my T42 I think?
However that said, it's important to note that I _OWN_ this ThinkPad and I'm looking at the display as opposed to "pictures on the web" or some other source. As a point of reference,
here is a brief list of the ThinkPads that I currently have, all purchased brand new, to compare the X300 display to. T60 15" IPS Flexview SXGA+ 1400x1050 / T60p 15" IPS Flexview UXGA 1600x1200. T43p SXGA+ non-IPS, T42 SXGA+ non-IPS. Thus I can say that while the IPS hi-res displays are certainly superior, the X300 display is excellent. Every bit as good, if not better than the displays on the T42 / 43 models which are quite excellent in their own right. The back lighting on the X300 is bright, very even edge to edge, and provides a crisp image with good color saturation. I highly endorse the X300!
Cheers

Absolutely, beyond any question. I have it in a couple of my ThinkPads and it's a great addition. I use it frequently (I travel all over the US for work) with great success.milstein wrote:Wouldn't the built-in mobile broadband on the Thinkpad work in most places, and some day in more places?

I'm sad they took the NavDial away. On one of the reviews it is mentioned that Lenovo's research found that it was seldom used. Can that really be right? I use it all the time on my X61t, as a page up - page down key. It's very useful for that if you're just reading and not inking, so you don't have to pick up the pen to navigate from one page to another. Even when you're inking, it's nice to keep the pen on the area you're inking and just use your thumb to move to the next page.
You can also program the NavDial button to do anything you want. Since it's 4-way, the left/right buttons can move you to the beginning or end of the document. Or advance by a single line. Anything you want.
Is no-one else going to miss this?
I hope they have sorted some other things out, too. The automatic landscape/portrait switch is very flawed on my X61t. Sometimes it doesn't switch when it should, or switches then switches back; it is basically unpredictable, and often painfully slow, as well.
And the low-battery actions are really annoying - suddenly I'll be typing away and the thing goes into hibernation with no warning whatsover. They really need to redesign the way it notifies you and put in a 10 second warning or something.
Another gripe - I hate the way it will come out of hibernation and then put itself into hibernation or suspend if you don't give some input within a few seconds. How many times have I brought it out of hibernation and gone away to do something else (e.g make some coffee), come back and the thing has gone BACK into hibernation. Sometimes this cycle happens two or even three times, since hibernation is so slow I give up hovering over the machine, nip away to do something else, come back and... confounded again. Really terrible design choice here.
