DEP (Data Execution Prevention) error with Access Connection

#1 Post by kingweb » Thu Sep 18, 2008 8:28 pm

Ok, I have never heard of this one before, but I just started getting it today. Every once in a while, it comes up. Access connections gets closed, and I get a "Data Execution Prevention" error in windows vista.

What is going on here?

I have been having one problem after another with this computer. Wifi gets disconnected every 1 hour or so. My friends T400 also had the same disconnect problem. At least once a day, I have to forcefully shut off the computer and restart. It doesn't always come back from standby or hibernate properly.

Anyone else having these problems?

Are you using the Intel 5300 AGN, if so others also feel your disconnection grief. The DEP is an issue with vista. I'd recommend uninstalling Access connections for a bit and using the windows connection manager. That may fix both issues.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I have the 5300. I updated the driver, and the disconnect problem seems to have gone away.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of access connections, however, I like that it has profiles. I don't know of any way to do the profiles in Vista's without 3rd party software. Any way you know about?

I'm not a vista user, so sorry. You can try to disable the DEP to get Access connections running again though. (google it)

I did, but it tells me something like "unable to disable DEP for access connections".
Also, I think disabling DEP would be more like a band-aid instead of actually fixing whatever is causing the problem.
