I got my R61i a week ago and the first thing I examined was the famous quality, being somewhat a perfectionist I immediately noticed minor flexing on the right side of the palmrest. I soon found out that this was pretty common in later versions of ThinkPads and that it could be fixed with a simple shim so I decided to try it.
After removing the palmrest and finding out that it is of poor quality I also noticed that a minor latch that connects to the palmrest in the lower left corner had snapped. This [censored] me off since I removed the palmrest carefully and according to Lenovo instructions. Functionally this isn't a big issue, but it is something I'd never expect from a ThinkPad.
This is not a question or anything, but I would like to share my disappointment with the miserable plastic quality and see if there is anyone with similar problems; and if this weakness might cause more problems in the long run..
