T500 LED Backlight Option Will Be Announced On 23SEP2008

#1 Post by Shelby Griggs » Mon Sep 22, 2008 4:22 am

Posted on the Lenovo forum on 19SEP2008 was this anouncement by Tim Supples of Lenovo:

"Folks,

The T500 LED option will officially announce on 9/23. It may take a little additional time for models with that panel to be available for purchase. W500 does not have an LED backlight option. Hope this helps"

The wait is over, I can replace the T43 now!

Great news! By backlight, do you know if they mean a backlight at 1680x1050 resolution or higher? I've been trying to search and find out if anyone knows of any plans to offer an LED display with that resolution or not. Is it a technical limitation of the technology at this point?

Either way, thanks for the heads up!

I have no clue, just reporting here what looked to be a pretty official answer to all the speculation on LED backlighted T500's

If they hold to the schedule, we should see the answer on the Lenovo web site tomorrow.

I don't believie they will give us LED in WSXGA+.
I think it's just WXGA LED mentioned in the tabbook.

I was waiting for the same - with this option (LED WSXGA+) I would change my T61p on T500, but without that I'm doing nothing.
Thanks for the info!

Same for me - I'm about to change my old thinkpad for a new one. I'd so much like to get a T500 one with LED backlight, but so far they've got it only in (for me) a bit inferior resolution. Personally I find it a bit odd that although the T500 is obviously meant to be the high-end over T400 (all the specs seem to point to that), the T400 still clearly wins in one of the most important features - the screen.

Could anybody please post some news (or at least some trustworthy speculations) about whether or not the LED will be available on T500 in at least WSXGA (or higher)? For me this is the last major thing really preventing me from getting it - even to the extent that if they'll keep that for longer, I'd settle for slightly worse performance, but much better screen in form of T400....

Best wishes
David
