GV3 Processor Driver

#1 Post by Zirynx » Tue Jan 04, 2005 9:26 am

Recently I have been updating the software on a T41 and came across a slightly confusing scenario. I started with product recovery as my clean base upon which I updated the IBM drivers, apps, XP updates and then XP-SP2.

Immediately after the product recovery, I started the Thinkpad Software Installer (version 2.00.0375) in order to generate a list of versions for the currently installed drivers and applications. To my surprise, a number of updates were available straight from the off! These were:

1. WinDVD app
2. Intel GV3 Processor Driver
3. Intel 2100 3B driver
4. IBM Audio features
5. Intel PROSet

No.'s 1 & 3 didn't worry me because I had already downloaded the latest versions from the IBM multiple download page.
No.'s 4 & 5 likewise, and I believe that these are non-essential 'extras' anyway.

But nestling in the middle was No. 2, the Intel GV3 Processor Driver, which particularly concerned me because I hadn't found any updated versions on the IBM site.

Software Installer reported that:

5.1.2600.0000 was installed, but that:
5.1.2600.1143 was available.

Feeling cautious, I decided to do some reasearch on what this was, and in the meantime updated the Thinkpad Software Installer itself, to version 2.34.04A1 and this is when it got really confusing! I started the new Software Installer app and found that the GV3 Processor Driver was no longer a candidate for upgrade (still at 5.1.2600.0000) so I'm utterly confused about where 5.1.2600.1143 went to!

Has anybody else noticed this, or can anybody shed any light on why this should be?

TIA.
