Did Lenovo Update, Access Connections Errors Now
I just did an Lenovo update tonight for my T61 (specs in sig) as the update was in my system tray saying it was time for one. It updated a few power management things, etc.
Now, whenever the machine wakes up from sleep or if I reboot, I get this error:
ThinkVantage Access Connections Service GUI Helper Module has stopped Working
A problem cause the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
[ Close Program ]
Anyone else having this problem? The machine is out of warranty now so I don't know how to go about fixing this. Or how to let Lenovo know it's not working - will they look into it or say it's something with my system? I want to find out if it's on my end or not first, though. (And, I haven't a clue anymore how to contact Lenovo as I don't have an email for their support - I can't find one).

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago with an X60T running Vista that originally had an Atheros a/b/g card in it (which did not work well) and which had an Intel a/b/g card put in its place. After removing the Atheros drivers and replacing them with Intel drivers, and then reinstalling AC, I got this error message repeatedly.
After uninstalling and reinstalling the above software about 4 times, I went through the registry trying to remove all references to Atheros (some references could not be removed as the system would not allow it even after I changed "permissions" to "everyone.") The error messages continued. In addition, Windows native wireless program functionality was impaired and didn't work most of the time.
After wasting about 2 hours on this aggravation I decided to clone over the hard drive contents of my other X60T, which had the Intel card installed in it from the beginning. This solved my problem.
If you have an old image of your hard drive, or you can go back to a prior state on your own system, I suggest you try this after a couple of tries at uninstalling and reinstalling the driver software then the AC software proves unsuccessful.
I don't know what the problem is with the software that is giving you this error message, but if my own experience is any guide I suspect you will find fixing this problem to be very time consuming, not to mention, aggravating.

Nuts. Doesn't sounds like I can do this right away either. I need to back up data first, too. I'll just ignore the message for now. Wireless works fine. Fn + F5 works fine. So I'll leave it at that. After I get an external HD and get backups done, and have some free time (which I don't have right now either) then I'll maybe try a reinstall.
Everything was working fine though up until that last update I got. Maybe with luck I'll get another update to fix it before I have to reinstall. *keeping fingers crossed*

If you get the update, let us know if it's working better. I personally am not going to update that app until they fix it. I put my laptop to sleep several times during the day and it happens every time that it awakens as well, so I rather wait for an update. Depends on how the machine is used, I guess. I hope they fix that soon.
Meanwhile I disabled that particular download in the system updates so I don't see it again (for now).

*piles on* I too am getting this error on every logon. I have Intel wireless in my T61p (8889-W7C) running Vista x64; I upgraded Access Connections from v4.5something. If they don't update soon, I guess I'll be going back.
*fails to resist* Don't they test this stuff?
I seem to remember a year ago or more, an Access Connections v5.0 appeared briefly for download and then disappeared. I think I was working on drivers for the T60p at the time.

Well, it's multi-step because trying to get a link will only result in not getting to the right page for your computer make. And too, I can't gaurantee that this is how you find it, but here's what I did:rgrossha wrote:Where did you find 4.52 for Vista?
1. Go to Lenovo.com and click on your country link.
2. In the top menu (black bar at top) click on Support.
3. DON'T enter your product number. Go through the drop down boxes (As you choose from one, another will appear until you get to the last which is to choose your OS).
Here's how I got to mine: Notebooks & Handhelds - ThinkPad T61 - 7658 - CTO - Windows Vista.
4. Click Continue (in blue on left under the drop down boxes).
5. Click on "Downloads and Drivers" from the box above "Results by Date".
6. From the dropdown, choose "Networking".
7. In the results below it, click "ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows Vista - Notebooks".
8. Scroll down the page or use your browser's find in page search feature to find "Previous version release".
9. Click on the link "Access Connection version 4.52".
Hopefully you'll have the same steps as I outlined above. I don't know if Lenovo has their site set up the same for all models. I'm assuming they do.

I started getting this message repeatedly after each logon/bootup after a recent Lenovo update to the Access Connection software.
This resolved the problem for me:
1.) Delete all Access Connections profiles.
2.) Recreate the profiles from scratch.
Hint: Write down (or take screen prints of) your profile parameters BEFORE you delete them so you don't have to reinvent the wheel when you recreate them.
Exporting & importing didn't work for me. I had to re-enter the profiles from scratch.

I started having frequent disconnects with the latest version of Access Connections and being unable to reconnect without rebooting. I did go back to the earlier version for a while but I still had problems.
I finally decided to just dump Access Connections. I still have Fn-F5 functionality and the disconnects are less frequent. When I do get disconnected, there is a good chance I can recover if I power off the wireless radio and then power it back on. This did not work while Access Connections was installed.
In general my system seems to run a little better without Access Connections although it could be my imagination.
Anyway, I think Lenovo is gradually screwing up most of the proprietary software they have inherited from IBM. The one recent exception seems to be the new Lenovo System Toolbox (formerly PC Doctor) but I guess they didn't write that one which is probably why it is good. I do like what they have done to that program.
