Internet Explorer 7 issues

#1 Post by JPH » Wed Sep 24, 2008 11:33 pm

Since I have now worked on several T61's (all running on XP except for one), I have noticed a general pattern with them all: IE7 tabs take forever when we click on them. Even straight out of a fresh install, clicking on a new tab will take 5-6 seconds before we can type a URL. I have turned off phishing filter etc but it still takes that much time. My old T43 and desktop PC's give me instantaneous access to the tabs.

Anyone aware if it is a "special" version bundled with Lenovo's Windows for T61? I have tried it with and without SP3 but the result is the same. Help, this is driving me nuts!

I had the same problem until I upgraded to IE8. Now it loads faster.

UPDATE: I think I have been able to pin down the problem and the solution.

Amongst the add-on's in IE7, disable anything Lenovo including the ThinkVantage Password manager (if you are not using it) and the CPwmIEBrowserHelper Object! I have enabled/disabled/played around with other add-ons and the culprits are definitely Lenovo-connected.

Now my IE7 feels more "normal".

Well done JPH!

I blew away my Vista T61p builds several times in learning Vista and what would work and what would not. At the end of the last build (the one before this, my daily driver), IE was working normally where it had not before and I never could figure out why.

So in this, my daily driver build, I disabled the two plugins you referenceds, and voila! IE returns to normal. Thank you!

I guess IE8 is not hampered by this, because I still have those enabled.
