CD/DVD drive problems

#1 Post by oghowie » Thu Sep 25, 2008 5:31 pm

I just got my t400 and throughout the day I've been installing programs by CD/DVD. However, every once in awhile I will insert a disc, the drive will spin a little and then the green light will turn off and the computer will no longer recognize that a CD drive is there. I have to pull the drive out of the slot and push it back in for the CD/DVD drive to start working again?

Is it just a bad drive? Any ideas?

I saw something like this once on a drive that the CDs would sometime stick in. The case was bent so that the CD would prevent the spindle from turning. I believe it gave me an error message, and I had to restart though. You should try rebooting without re-seating the drive. If that doesn't work, try rebooting onto a live or preinstall CD, again without taking out the problem device. If both of those fail, it's probably a bad drive and you should contact Lenovo. If one actually works, then it's likely needing the drivers to be updated.
