Presentation Director and an LCD TV?

#1 Post by rcrooks » Fri Sep 26, 2008 4:08 pm

Hey guys, I have a T43 and a 27" sharp aquos LCD.

When I go to presentation director and hook up the tv via VGA, it only gives me the option to show in 1028x768 or whatever, when the TV is widescreen.

I can go back manually every time in windows and resize my screen to 1368x720 or whatever it is supposed to be, but that is annoying.

Does anyone know why we are limited to 800x600 and 1028x768 in the presentation director settings?

Thanks!

If the LCD has an native DVI port, then WindowsXP will pick it up correctly. If the TV input is HDMI, it actually expects over scan so the window size became 1280x720.

The Windows Media Center version suppose to be better but I don't have a copy to test it.

Here is how I do it:

1. Computer on a dock. External KB and mouse connected. HDMI TV connected to the DVI port thru an adapter. DVI-HDMI cable is also available.
2. Boot the computer using the Thinkpad LCD.
3. Close the lid and let the Thinkpad go to sleep.
4. Push the power button on the dock to wake up the Thinkpad without opening the lid. The Computer should display on the TV.
5. Change the display resolution to 1280x720 or whatever is the closest to your TV by right click on the desktop and change the display resolution in the Settings tab .

Some slide show software only run in the primary display. So this way the TV become my primary display. I couldn't get Powerstrip or Presentation Director to work consistently. This way had always worked for me.
