WTB: AC power adapter for older A21m

#1 Post by SaberX » Mon Sep 29, 2008 3:15 pm

A friend of mine has this old A21m(P-III 750Mhz).
The power adapter just gave out on her.She needs one for cheap.
Anyone have one for cheap or know a place or seller on e-bay to get one?
I think the A21's can use the 56w or 72W adapters.

Shipping is to Canada

I have a 16V 3.36a adapter from a 600 I could send for postage. Let me know if you are interested.

The specs in the tawbook says that the A21m shipped with a 72 watt (16V 4.5A) power supply.

Thanks. It's nice to know. But brings up a question...
If i use a 56w(16v 3.36A) adapter, what will happen to the system over time?
I have used the smaller adapter on lots of thinkpads and dident see any diffrence at all.The system still ran fine, charged the battery fine.
Maybe with the 72w adapter it will charge the fattery faster??

It's possible that the power supply will die (maybe that's what happened to your friend's adapter) because it's trying to deliver more power than what it was designed for. Whether or when that happens, will it take out anything in the laptop? Don't know but I wouldn't want to chance it.

Using a higher current rated power supply should not make the battery charge any faster or better. That would be a function of the charging controller on the motherboard.

Look at the bottom of the machine, the sticker will tell you the required input voltage. In the 20's a lot of 16V 3.36A machines shipped with 16V 4.5A
