I foolishly decided to update the BIOS and Embedded controllers on my T40 (2373-92U). The BIOS worked fine, as was the controller one, until right at the end when the battery light turned orange (the battery was fully charged when I was doing the update). When I restarted the machine, it was still showing the battery as dead.
With a little research it turns out the latest version of the Embedded Controller refuses to recognize non-IBM generic replacement batteries (that'll teach me).
My problem is, how the hell do I roll the install back? I've tried to install older versions, but it refuses since it cannot see a fully charged battery installed (even though there is). Do I have to capitulate and go spend $100+ (just as IBM would like me to).
Any help appreciated.
