New Ghosted Hardrive doesn't boot?

#1 Post by Wendy » Thu Oct 02, 2008 12:11 pm

Am I doing something wrong? Ghosted my 160 gb 7200 hard drive that came with my W500 to a 250 gb 7200 Western Digital Scorpio to allievate reinstalling everything. I want to have external additional memory using the multi bay adapter and figured the 160 would be better for that.

When I put it in and try to boot, all I get is the curser blinking at me. I've tried changing the boot sequence in the bios to no avail. When I put the Scorpio in the multi-bay hard drive module, the system reads the hard drive and even gives me a message about the service partition, although I have actually tried booting from it. Any ideas?

Try Acronis True Image instead.

With Vista, Ghost 8 will do this (Ghost 11 works better), having experienced this issue myself.

Just put Vista CD in (if you have one, and make sure to use 32 bit if you have 32 bit Vista and 64 bit if you have 64 bit Vista), boot from it, then click recovery option, and it should scan for and repair the existing install, then you reboot and all is well. Only takes 2-3 minutes total.

Thanks, but I got a copy of Vista Home Premium 64 bit and just redid the new hard drive. Got rid of the unnecessary service sector and other non-essential junk.

The Thinkvantage updater does a great job of filling in all the missing gaps.
