Question: X60 temperatures at full performance

#1 Post by zenith » Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:08 am

Hi guys,

I've had some problems with my X60 overheating. The temperature sensors showed that the cores were running at over 100C at full speed and utilization, thus overheating. In the end the machine would turn itself off because of a thermal shutdown. This could happen at random, and I also did some stresstesting with cpuburn (burnP6).

Could some of you guys enlighten me on what temperatures I can expect when both cores are running at full speed? My cpu is a T2400 (1.83Ghz).

Yes, I have still warranty left. The computer is in for service a second time now. After I got it back from service the first time, it still would go over a 100C. The guys at the repair center claim that they can't get it anywhere above 56C though.

If I crunch numbers with my X60 (SETI, RC5, etc), I get 90+c. But I don't get the thermal shutdown issue.

With normal web surfing, checking of emails (< 10% CPU usage), the temperature hovers around 55-60C.
