T23 CDRW/DVD

#1 Post by jronald » Fri Oct 03, 2008 7:08 pm

OK
With a big help from RealBlackStuff and the proper rails
I have jumped for a 4X to 24X CDRW with DVD onboard
I picked this up on sale for $21.99

Slapped the above mentioned rails on it.
Nibbled the right corner with this

Slid it in place, XP found it immediately and I started burning.
It could not have been easier!

That nibbler is a really nifty little tool! So far I've been using my Dremel to cut/modify bezels, but this may be a lot faster!

The plastic is at the outer limits of what will fit in the groove, but is very soft and cuts quite easily. Alot less dusty too!

With the way that technology is moving these days, I don't even fret about cd's anymore. I hardly burn them as I feel guilty about the amount of plastic they make for only 600mb. I have a small spindle of abou 20 cdr's that I think will sit around my house for years.

The same goes with DVDr's. I just got a 250GB external portable usb hard drive, the kind that doesn't need a powered source. Now I don't like burning dvd's to add to my dvd collection. I've already got 200 some odd movies thankfully sitting in a space efficient cd binder.

I am waiting for the day when I can plug in my externald DVD drive into my dvd player or hd tv and play iso files or video_ts files directly from the hard drive. At this point if I want to watch a movie on my tv, I just burn it onto a dvdrw and watch it, then erase it and burn another movie.

One time use media is so early 2000's, and really bad for the environment.
