Hm, that´s possible, but it´s a bit technical, for instance have a look here. There may be also more straightforward solutions.

Cheers

A few thoughts: I wonder if it´s possible to install XP from a usb HD by unpacking an XP bootable .iso image on this drive provided there are no other files on the usb drive. It may be also necessary to write a script or to change the autorun.inf. And then just set in BIOS booting from an usb drive :?

I would try to find a USB DVD-ROM, your chances for success will be better. While you can boot from an external HDD, I don't know if it will boot the XP install process. Installing should work fine with a DVD drive, just make sure than when you burn the ISO image (if you are burning a custom XP CD) that you make sure to make the disk bootable. Good Luck!

I guess the OP will make sure to make it sure... ;) Also, make sure to set the BIOS to boot from the usb in this case, i.e. put usb in the first place in boot order (Maybe this isn´t necessary with X300...).
