Print out page 53 of this document for detailed specifications of the 701C:

Although your model number is not listed, it will give you an idea of what they originally came with. The differences are usually minor.

I'm not an expert on memory for these things but I doubt if the eBay memory would work. Someone used to sell 64 MB modules for the 701C, but he modified them. It wouldn't hurt anything to plug it in and try.

Technicly this is true but only on WIN XP and higer - the rest of Windows provide only the type of the CPU but no speed. Instead you should use a diagnostic program like SiSoft Sandra or Everest Home - you should be able also to verify the rest of components in your machine. As for the memory, here are my $ 0.02: I say that this is risky. Although the specs of the RAM look like they should work, but from my experience the odds for that are very small (I've been looking for a memory upgrade for my 701c for the last 6 months - none of the memory modules that I have been offeret had worked and their specs were just like IBM stated). If I were you, I should look for a memory that ha been tested on a 701c/cs model to avoid any problems.

Had one years ago - as far as I remember Max 40 MB of RAM and a 75 MHz processor

701's came with either 4mb or 8mb onboard memory.

You could get 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 MB RAM Modules, So the maximum RAM configuration for the 701 is 36MB/40MB.

There were a number of different Manufacturers:

1. IBM (32 MB SO-DIMM, 3.3V Part No.: 92G7281 16 MB:92G7263 8 MB:92G7259 4 MB:92G7259)
2. Kingston (32 MB DIMM Part No.: KTM TP701/32)
3. MPM Golden Ram
4. PNY Electronics
5. Simple Technology
6. Viking Components (32 MB DIMM Part No.: I7281)
7. There is also a 64 MB RAM DIMM (upgrading your system ram to 64 mb, onboard ram will be ignored) floating around.
