How to sync my T60 to a T500?

#1 Post by salin » Sat Oct 04, 2008 6:53 pm

Can anyone tell me if I can sync me existing T60 to a new T500. I have Bluetooth on both machines. I would like to do this on a regular bases so I have the same info on both laptops.
What other information can I supply to know if this is possible?

thx, John

I've sync'd various machines for various reasons but never used bluetooth for this purpose (which doesn't mean it can't be done, I've just never done it).

What I did use are (and all incur additional expenses):
- a USB stick - small, easy, convenient, but can also be easily misplaced
- network attach storage (NAS) - assumes the computers are on the same network, also provides additional backup facilities
- ultrabay 2nd HD adapter - which may not work for T60 and T500 - one could also use an external 2.5" USB hard drive.
- "Beyond Compare 2" as sync software (which is now apparently available as v3) - other (cheaper/better) sync software may be available

If they're on the same network you can try rsync ;)

Thanks for the reply basketb.
I know I can use an external HHD, but I was looking for a simpler solution.
I will look into your other suggestions.

Thx, John

Plug a crossover ethernet cable into both computers, and use SyncBack (free) or SyncBackSE (unfree).
Syncing 20GB of data usually takes me about 2 minutes, unless a lot of large files have been changed when it may take a few minutes longer.
