T42 Wireless - Access Connections not using 2200BG

#1 Post by ttrickyy » Sun Oct 05, 2008 3:29 pm

I recently bought a new T42 motherboard to replace a dead unit. After formatting my drive and putting on a fresh Windows XP install, everything works great except for the Intel 2200BG wireless card. I would rather use Access Connections than the XP Wireless manager, but I cannot get AC to detect any networks: as soon as I hit scan it returns "No networks found". The Windows tool returns all of the typical networks in the area, and it connects and works fine.
Is the Intel 2200BG not supported by access connections? On my last board I had "upgraded" from a supported 802.11b card (Intel 2100B?) to an Atheros 5005GS, which was not supported by Access Connections and instead used the Windows wireless manager, so I would rather use Access Connections if possible.

What I have tried so far:
- Install wireless drivers, install Lenovo System Update, let everything update. Same problem.
- Install wireless drivers, install AC. Same problem.
- Install AC, install wireless drivers. Same problem.
- I cannot seem to get LAN working before running System Update- I believe I have the right drivers (Intel 1000MT) but it always returns "little or no activity".

My laptop is a T42, 2373-8ZU. Wireless card is an Intel 2200BG, and the BIOS version is 3.17 (1RETDLWW).

Thanks in advance.

I believe you have to disable the Windows connection manager to allow AC to "see" the card.

How would I go about doing that?

Go into the properties for your wireless adapter and uncheck the box next to " Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. "

I have tried this and I still have the same problems.

Another issue I have noted: Access Connections initially reports that the wireless card is powered off, although the LED is on and Windows can report networks.

You sure this was a T42 motherboard and not a T40 or T41? I had a T40 which had this problem when I replaced the Intel 2100B card with a IBM (atheros) a/b/g card from a T42. I deleted access connections and it worked fine after that except Fn-F5 would never work properly.

What's the part number of the motherboard and the wireless card? What BIOS are you using?

The wireless card works, just that I would rather use Access Connections (in order to be able to use static IPs in multiple places, etc).

I incorrectly reported it earlier, it is actually a 2373-8ZU, wireless model Intel 2200BG, and BIOS 3.17 (1RETDLWW).

Well, it is a T42. You could try updating to the latest BIOS (3.23, I believe). Do you have the part number for the B/G card?

Hello to all.

I had the same problem with Intel PRO/Wireless 2915abg card on my T43. I don't remember if it started with updating Access Connections or something else, because I updated everything via System update.

I tried everything but could not control wireless with Fn+F5.

Then I read all the Access Connections requirements and readme files and succeded. The problem was, that I was updating drivers for my Intel card via Windows device manager. I shouldn't. You must run the "iProInst.exe" in the "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANINT2\XP\Apps\x32" folder ( in my case ) and it installs the driver + something and after reboot the Access Connections ( 5.02 ) worked like a charm.

At least that worked for me. :)

Alex
