Problems using IBM Access - PLEASE HELP!!!

#1 Post by MJC » Thu Jan 06, 2005 10:08 am

Ever since I got my T42 a month ago, I had been using the Windows W/L Network Connection, today I decided to use/setup the IBM Access. For some reason now I am not able to connect to the Net - though I can connect to my access point.

I am getting the following error message when I try to connect using IE:

"The page cannot be displayed"

If I use Firefox I get:

"The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.xxx.xxx"

I have NPF, I have not make any changes there (left it same as before when I was using the windows w/l connection) - as a test I disable it but as I expected got the same error message, so I don't think this is the problem.

I would like to go back and use the Windows Network Connection, when I click on repair, it says it is connected with excellent signal strength - but I am not able to access the web.

What can I do? Am I missing anything? :?:

I don't have the "g" part of the card, but sometimes the same thing happens to me. When I uninstall the wireless network card in device manager, and reboot, it usually ends up re-installing and fixing itself. If you haven't tried it, it may be worth a shot. Good luck. I know how highly frustrating this can be.

Before I started using IBM Access Connection everything was fine. There must be something I am doing wrong... The Wireless Network Connection shows I am connected yet I am not able to access the web. I have disable all ecryption and firewall and nothing...and all because I messed with the IBM Network Connection!!!

Are you sure all your TCP/IP settings in your wireless Access Connections profile are correct? That's all it would take really to prevent internet access, but still allow you to connect to an access point.

Have no idea how, but it is fixed. I deleted the connection profile, and then created a new one - that was it. Though all the connections were correct, icluding the IPs, encryption settings... I don't know why it was not allowing me to access the web.

I will never mess with it again, what a day.

Cool, but don't let this experience disuade you from using (and learning to love!) Access Connections. It's one of the best ThinkVantage software titles, in my opinion. Glad you solved it!
