How I got A2DP and AVRCP working on my T42p

#1 Post by iraqigeek » Tue Oct 07, 2008 9:02 am

So, After a little bit of tinkering around, I managed to get my Sony DR-BT20NX stereo headset to work on my T42p using the built in IBM Integrated Bluetooth II daughter card and running Windows XP Professional SP3.

The setup process was quite simple. First I uninstalled ALL previous bluetooth drivers on the machine. Then restarted. Then I downloaded the Toshiba Bluetooth stack (v6.10.10) from:

http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/

Installed that stack. Restarted, and voila! I was able to pair my BT20NX headset immediately. In fact, I'm listening to music through the headset.

The headset is working on both A2DP and AVRCP profiles.

Hope this helps anyone...

what about the warning on the download site about it timing out after 30 days on non-toshiba hardware? did you get an error message or anything?
i'm interested in trying an alternate bt stack, but if it will be limited by time, it's not worth re-pairing all my devices with my laptop to just have to do it again in a few weeks.

Didnt see any warnings when I installed the stack, no warnings show up when I use it, and nothing in the settings applet about that either. Just checked the FAQ, and to me it seems like a legal notice, not a physical limitation in the software itself.

So I guess we can only legally use that stack for 30 days. I'll use this stack for now, and will look for an "alternative" after those 30 days end ;)

On a side note, My Asus A8Jp uses that same Toshiba stack with its BT 2.0 internal module. This is the driver I got when I bought the laptop and I've had this laptop for over a year with that stack installed without any issues.

Just tried the same. Drivers seem to work, but there is this 30 days trial period that is shown in the task list if you put your mouse on the green-blue BT symbol. Any way to activate this?

Thanks

Looks like I laughed too soon for A2DP on my Thinkpad T42. Those drivers work at first sight, but sound is intermittent. It works for 30 seconds, then it starts giving me short sound pieces for 30 seconds, then it works again for 30 seconds, and so on. Looks like it was not worth the time... Coupling the device to the PC does not work flawlessly either: Sometimes the headset is not recognized.

The Toshiba drivers work fine on my T42, paired with Dell's BH-200 and no problems whatsoever with either A2DP or AVRCP. Great quality sound without interruptions @338kbps. Unfortunately the 30 days limit is still there, to overcome it you would either have to get a Dell/Toshiba BT daughter board or make a step in the wrong direction.
Rescued T23, 1GB RAM, PIII 1.13GHz, 80GB 5400 rpm HDD, Mini-PCI WiFi, internal bluetooth module, LCD 1400x1050. Dual Boot XP Pro & Fedora Core 7.
