Finding Parts for 701C (2630) Butterfly Laptop

#1 Post by paintstikker » Tue Oct 07, 2008 5:13 pm

I'm in the process of restoring an old 701C butterfly; the internals are in pristine condition and work perfectly, but the case has seen better days. I'm not really doing it for the sake of it's age & originality, I'm just the kind that is really annoyed if something has even a slight imperfection in paint blemish, paint, etc, so I repair it and/or order new parts.

Anyway, after a couple days of google searching (which probably would amount to an hour if I was on high speed but unfortunately am on 28K dial-up) I have only found keyboard cover, not the base or LCD plastics which are obviously pretty damaged.

When I received it, somebody seemed to have bonded the laptop to a port replicator with a large amount of gorilla glue, as well as gotten glue all over the rest of the base, and the LCD plastics have pieces chipped off, cracked, broken, etc. I've reassembled the plastics with CA and Bondo and painstakingly cut off all the gorilla glue with an x-acto and am about to give the laptop my personal paint scheme. I still want an original black case, though, as I do not know what is used for that rubbery black surface on IBM laptops.

Thanks for any help!
Duct tape is kinda like the force. It's got a light side, a dark side, and it holds the whole universe together...
