Water spill on R50e

#1 Post by leonid » Wed Oct 08, 2008 9:38 am

Hello,

I have spilled water on the lower area of my laptop screen around where the inverter is located.
The screen blinked a few times and then went dark.
Seems to be a back light problem since I can see everything if I point some light on it. (the light never comes back on)

Replacing the inverter did not help. I am now considering replacing the back light which I know is not easy.

Before I go ahead with this plan I would like to ask:
Is there any other part that could cause this and which I could replace with less trouble than the back light?
Moreover, considering that I spilled water on the lower area of the screen, is it reasonable to assume the back light is the part that went bad?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I was involved in a similar repair for a laptop that I got in recently. It turned out to be a bad LCD cable.

Is there a way to check whether the back light works or not?

Wouldn't a faulty LCD cable cause a completely blank image? I can still see everything but it's dark.

The LCD cable also carries signals to the inverter, so yes it is possible to see dark images and still have the cable be defective. I know of no way to test the backlight short of replacement.
