Hello all,
I have a Power Management question regarding my t42 running XP. When plugged into a docking station with a Dell LCD monitor the total power draw is about 80 watts. When I push the F4 button the unit goes into hibernation just fine, power goes to about 2 watts, however if I walk away from the unit even though I have the Power Options set up to put the unit under power into hibernation it stays in a mode that keeps the fan running and the keyboard on, in other words it does not go into true hibernation. This is not big deal but it would be nice if the machine shut down all the way to conserve energy when I forget to hit the F4 button. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bruce

Hi!
The F4 button (Fn+F4) is just for suspend. If you want to hibernate, you should hit Fn+F12.
Then go to Start > Control panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power options > Power schemes
There is a part that says:
"System hibernates:" and then 2 possible options. The first one is when the machine is plugged. The other option is for when the machine is in battery.
You should change these options at your taste.
