error pop-up in firefox... (small pic)

#1 Post by sarbin » Wed Oct 08, 2008 11:40 am

just today i'm seeing the following pop-up error in firefox:

http://65.108.236.226/tpf/error.jpg
[changed img to link, by request]

i think, but can't be sure, that this coincides with the new LogicBuy scrolling ad box near the top right, as it loads a new ad. it doesn't occur for each new ad... it just seems more random.

anyone else seeing this?

it's pretty annoying in ff. i'm getting the pop-up in at least 1 in 4 page loads, maybe more.

Very annoying. In Firefox, Adblock doesn't seem to help, but the Blocksite add-in seems to work. Add http://www.logicbuy.com to the Blocksite block list, clear the cache, and the message seems to disappear.

It happens to me every time I click any link on the forums, but doesn't seem to be happening spontaneously.

Firefox 3.0.3.

gentlemen..
the revised logicBuy advert was put up early this AM..
i.e. 3 or 4 am wednesday morning..

please let me know if this coincides with the error..

also, let me know if the advert is annoying..

ALSO, FWIW, i have had it UP TO HERE -- with this server..
random server lockups and the like with no way to get things repaired or even the reset button pressed when the forum server DOES lock up..

Bill, it is possible that the new LogicBuy banner is causing this. Can you disable it momentarily as a test?. If you run Firefox you can tell right away if it's fixed.

I've seen this annoying pop-up too in FF 3.0.3 and i've got rid of it with the AdBlockPlus addon for FF; i had to add this line: "http://forum.thinkpads.com/LogicMedia/* " to the block list.
Now it's fine again, i'd used to get the pop-up at every click on any link or button in the page...whewh...

PS: the " * " at the end is very important as it is the element from the syntax that blocks the links only from the /LogicMedia/ folder on this server...

PPS: a few hours ago i had an user bar in my sig, now it's gone, does anyone have a clue? (i didn't edit my sig to add or remove te userbar, it was added a few months back).

Haven't seen the popup in Opera.

BTW, Opera 9.60 final was just released. I was using Opera 9.52 until this post.

Off topic, but regarding forum down times, which appears for now to be a major problem, it can be sometimes really annoying, particularly when one is trying to reply to a thread or to follow a topic one is interested in :? I don´t believe we would consider it so problematic if it wasn´t that frequent (at least 2-3 times a day and finally I got tired to write them down :x).
As of today the forum seems to have been up the whole day, so I guess the problem was replaced by the annoying FF message :) (sorry if inappropriate humor).

Thanks for the hint. This works a threat! :) Browsing this forum has become a pleasure again without the annoying pop-up from FF!

Cheers

Been using Firefox 2.0.0.17 and haven't seen any popups or error messages, but then again, I have FF suppressing popups (with some sites excluded from being blocked) using the built-in blocker and not any add-ons.

The site has been unresponsive several times this morning and early afternoon (PDT). I actually saved the text of a couple of my posts in Notepad files in case the site didn't come back before I had to leave for work.

I get it using Firefox 3.0.3? on my x24. I upgraded my Java script thinking it was it. I'll pay attention to this thread.

Thanks,

FF 3.0.3 - it works ok now...

-a small notice: i see in the AdBlock Plus blockable items list the script that loads the images for the ad appearing once with the .js extension and then again several times it appears as an XMLRequest and it continues to appear +1 every about 2-3 seconds but the old ones don't disappear. This might load the server with too many requests that never close.

@sarbin: please remove that annoying image from your first post! Whenever I click on this thread, it is the first thing I see and I think to myself "oh no, the problem started again"
