$130 for a working, albeit stripped and slightly damaged, T42 sounds pretty good. Assuming that you have the PC2700 memory that the T42 requires and an Ultrabay Slim optical drive already on hand, then you just need to fill in the bits and pieces (covers, battery, etc.). Just hope it doesn't have a loose GPU
.
Personally I'm fairly curious about the condition of the system and the packing job. I've seen this seller many times before on eBay selling Thinkpads but I've yet to buy a system from her (him?).

I was thinking I would try the heat gun reflow trick.AlphaKilo470 wrote:At the bottom of the description page, there was an asterisk mentioning that laptop has a video issue. Beware.
I have some stuff for this T42 already, memory, Two 7K100 drives (an ata and a sata for the ultrabay) power supply and a dock. I'm excited to have a modern Thinkpad.

I always assume that "Laptop posts to bios! Nothing else tested!" means bad GPU. So, I base my buying decisions with that in mind.
Very rarely, I've gotten a "parts" machine that actually doesn't have the GPU issue.
Worst case scenario is you can part it out for at least what you paid for it - plus your time.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

That is excellent advice for the T4Xs. Anyone have a box of T4X parts they like to sell?

Honestly, there are so many excellent T4x machines selling in this forums marketplace at such low prices, I think the price of adding a battery, ac adapter, hard drive, hard drive cover, RAM, RAM cover will cost you more than having bought one from one of our excellent forum member. And it wouldn't have the cosmetic damage and GPU problem.
But if you wanted a machine to work on, its not a bad deal. Locally I tend not to pay more than $100 for a T4x with a GPU problem, and thats usually including everything. But local markets are hit/miss and require a lot of labor and pursing.
