I was just wondering if anyone has installed Mandriva 2009 on their Thinkpad yet?
I'm running 2008 spring on my R61 and it seems to work ok.

Mandriiva 2009 has just been released
Re: Mandriiva 2009 has just been released
After years of fooling around with over a dozen Linux distros, I still haven't found one that would serve me as a daily operating system. Mostly, there aren't suitable substitutes for MS Office (sure Open Office is -pretty good-, and there are no simple little old checkbook programs that suit my fancy.doog wrote:I was just wondering if anyone has installed Mandriva 2009 on their Thinkpad yet?

I did try Mandrive 2009 live CD a couple days ago and it worked fine on my R50p ThinkPad, including running wireless after some messing around to figure out the menu.
Linux is getting better and better, for sure.
The latest live CDs seem to run faster, and the "install to RAM" feature found on some distros is really nice for the "live" tryout, without the annoying slowness of the live CD.
Since I have a TechNet subscription, I'm running Windows Server 2008 (Vista as it should have been!) and it's fast and stable, and runs all my applications quick as a bunny. That is my operating system of choice for the time being.

All the ThinkPads is my house are dual-boot, one way or another. The problem is, by the time I configure "the distro of choice" for the given machine 100% to my liking, its new version is just around the corner...
My "main" A31p has Mint 4.0 Daryna. That's not going anywhere, being my "daily" distro.
T23 is configured with Mint 5.0 Elyssa. Very pleased with it, runs surprisingly well on hardware this old...Mandriva 2008 was a complete no-go...
All fine and well, but from what I'm gathering 6.0 is just around the corner...
Now, my T43 runs Mandriva 2008 and I'm loving every moment of it on that particular machine, it seems like a perfect fit, and I'd be extremely unwilling to touch it...
What if I happen to really like Mandriva 2009...
Do I buy another ThinkPad that I don't need when I'm unable to sell off the extras that I already have?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh! Please slow down, Linux developers ...
You lucky, lucky man. I'll be looking for another machine if I really get to like Mandriva 2009...I'm starting to think I need another hard drive.

On my R40 I'm dual booting XP/ Suse 10.3.
I have just kept 10.3 because it has been problem free.
R61e is just running Mandriva 08 Spring.
"Not all the features work"
But it's running temp is around 38/39 degrees which I'm pleased about.
And I have a Dell freebie
I'm running PCLOS Mini Me on with no problems.
I will agree Mint has a nice Distro also.
And I guess I should have one more Thinkpad just in case I want to try another Distro.
