Big sale on Lenovo - rare or not???

#1 Post by DeKay » Sat Oct 11, 2008 4:25 pm

I've found myself in the market for a laptop and came across the T400 that has a pretty steep discount off its regular price at this time. My question is: is a sale with this much off a rare occurrence for Lenovo or are they heavily discounted often? Can I get a discount of this magnitude on a regular basis by going the EPP route?

The sale supposedly ends on Oct 13th, and I'd like to hold off for a bit to see what the new Macbooks look like (to be announced a day or two after). But if the discounts (including the stackable coupon) are unlikely to come around anytime soon, I'd likely roll the dice and order by Oct 13th.

Thanks!

I've been observing T400's and T500's prices since the first day they were available on Lenovo's website and 'special offers' look almost always identical. There are sometimes some slight changes, some new options appear (like new processors with different prices) but seriously - offers are almost the same.
Usually the offer ends on XY/ZV/2008, and the next day appears just a different date - prices don't change.

Sales and associated prices can fluctuate quite a bit, actually. See for example these two threads:

and

From personal experience, I was looking at a T61p (and briefly an R61) between April and June of this year and prices on the same configured model varied by up to $200. If you are not in a rush to buy a new system, I'd suggest you configure a few systems that you are interested in and keep track of the prices for a couple of month to get a feel for what is a good price.

Depends on the configuration.
Between April and June my lap changed it's price just a bit - about 50$. Apart of that - one month after the purchase Lenovo stopped offering Ultra WideBand and Intel Turbo Memory together (don't know why).
