I'm not very familiar with the Pinnacle products, but I suspect that they aren't much different than most other manufacturers in that the recommended specs that they quote are usually for a Pentium 4 which isn't directly referable to the Pentium M processors. Generally the P M should be compared with a P 4 by multiplier of 1.3 to 1.5 (of course that is going to vary depending on who you talk to). So your 1.6 is probably within the ballpark of being able to handle the load. That being said, it's not a huge issue to upgrade the processor on the T40. In fact, it'd probably be highly recommended, given that the T40 came with a "Banias" CPU (1Mb of L2 Cache) vs. the later "Dothan" CPU (2Mb of L2 Cache). You can often get a Dothan up to 1.8Ghz for not very much (sub-$30), so you can get a faster CPU with doubled the L2 Cache.

Also, I'd suspect that your amount of RAM would be more than sufficient to deal with this software. I've used Adobe Photoshop Elements which I would suspect has requirements as high or higher than Pinnacle at a time when I was using a T30 running a 2.0Ghz processor and 1Gb of RAM. Later I used a T41 with a 1.6 Dothan CPU and 1Gb of RAM running the same software with good results.

Hope this helps.

Processors aren't difficult to put in to the T4x series machines. You'll just need to download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the machine from the Lenovo support site. And the cost of Dothans up to 1.8 are not very expensive at all (typically sub $50), but the price takes a HUGE jump when you get above that into the 2.0 or 2.1ghz range, so that is generally not a recommended place to put your money for the marginal difference that .2 or .3Ghz will get you.

Personally, I run a T42p with a 1.8 Dothan in it and I can't imagine me upgrading the processor to a 2.0 unless I just happen on a ridiculous deal.
