Get an IBM Thinkpad Ultraslim Bay 2nd HDD Adapter - 05K5338. It fits right where the CD/DVD optical drive is. I have two of them and I use one of them to backup my data on a 80GB hard drive (Hitachi Travelstar Model: IC25N080ATMR04-0 and I don't use it everyday. I have an IBM ThinkPad 600E 2645-4AU.

Thanks Keyhole. Good solution. However, I use my CD/DVD quite a lot so would prefer to replace the 20GB HDD I have fitted in the machine. Will the 600 work ok with the 80GB installed as the primary disk? Will the 600 accept a 120GB HDD?

The 80GB hard drive will work on your laptop but make sure you update the BIOS and partition the hard drive in four (4) sections. Then use Ranish Partition Manager to copy one partition to another partition. This is where the Thinkpad 600 Ultraslimbay Hard Disk Drive Adapter (05K5338) come in at. It will save you a lot of time than format and reinstall the operating system on the bigger hard drive. I did it when I copied the partition from the 20GB to 30GB hard drive I pulled it out from another laptop. I don't put all my eggs in one basket and I mean is the "C" partition is for the operating system and "D" partition for where the "My Documents" folder go in at and "E" and "F" partitions is for other data files.

By the way, what operating system are you using on your ThinkPad?
