Relative Identifier error

#1 Post by atexan » Fri Jan 07, 2005 10:41 am

Hi Everyone I am new to this site and this is my first time posting. Hope some of you can help me with this, I just got my first t-42 and am anxious to use it, however.........

The IT dept has been getting an error when making my laptop a member of our company domian.

This is the error message:

"The directory service was unable to allocate a relative identifier.

Has anyone ever received this error and any suggestions?

Have a look at Microsoft Knowledge Base article 822503 and see if it sheds any light.

On one hand, I like to see problems get solved rather than avoided, but in this case, I always recommend that Laptops *not* be placed on a domain. They are, after all, often away from the domain. It is pretty easy to create batch files to connect and disconnect services when in the Company location. I do that for clients and it works well. Conversely, wherever I go that Laptops are domain-connected, users often have problems when not on the domain. YMMV
